What Can You Do With Soap Nuts?

 

Soap nuts are commonly used as laundry detergent. To get the most out of it, try making soap, shampoo, cleaner and more! Fantastic isn't it? Here’s how:

Effective Detergent

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups water
  • 30 pcs soap nuts
  • 15 drops of any essential oil you love!

Instructions:

1. Boil the soap nuts and the water in a pot.
2. Remain the pot covered and simmer in a low heat  for 30-45 minutes.
3. Allow it to warm, on a temperature you can handle. Strain it using fine strainer or cheesecloth.
4. Put drops of the essential oil, mix, and set aside until it cool down.
5. Transfer in a bottle or jar. 

On a normal wash load, you can put 4-5 tablespoon of the liquid detergent. For a heavily soiled clothes, you may add 2 tablespoon of borax powder.

Don't throw out the shells, it can be mixed with compost!

All Purpose Cleaner

Follow the boiling instruction when making a liquid detergent. You may mix it with other natural cleaning agent like vinegar and baking soda. And for a citrus smell, you can add lemon or orange essential oil. Soap nuts are wonderful alternative in handling dirty household jobs


 Body Wash & Shampoo 

Do also the boiling steps when making a laundry detergent but make it lesser. Like 6 pieces of soap nuts for 4 cups of water. A drop of lavender or any citrusy essential oil for an amazing smell is also great. If you're planning to use it for baby's bath, make sure essential oil that you will be using are safe for babies.

 You can also use the mixture as your pet's soap and shampoo. Amazing isn't it?
